I'd like to be able to rally in 2wd. But my trac control just shuts her down.
Anyone know how to disable trac control, and antilock brakes?

im guessing by your sig you've got a 5th gen, there has to be a way to either cut off completely or make the traction control switchable, its been done over and over with 4th gens.

I've found a thread on t4r discussing this but i am not sure how it applies to the trd pros or 2015 models. @Emelianenkov had a great write up for the 4th gens on disabling the vsc and stability control without damaging the factory wiring, and maybe he can provide some insight.

I've got a 2015 Trail and here's what I do to disable traction control fully, although ABS is still on.

    1. Come to a complete stop.
    2. Put it in 4 Hi
    3. Press and hold the traction control off button.
    4. Immediately the "Trac Off" light turns on. This means the power will not be cut away from you when the wheels start to spin. However the brakes will still engage to when you start sliding to keep you going straight.
    5. If you hold the traction control off button for 5 seconds (while stopped and in 4 Hi) a second light turns on. This light looks like a vehicle slipping with "OFF" below it. Now the brakes will not kick in when you start going sideways and power will not be cut when the wheels spin.
    6. Put it back into 2 wheel drive and have fun!

This will be undone whenever you turn off the car or press the traction control off button again. Unfortunately you have to come to a complete stop and can't do this on the fly. If you're looking for something you can do with the flip of a switch then check the forum, my understanding is it is some simple wiring but I don't see the need for it as I only do this when screwing around in the winter.

  4. I am a total newbie to some of these facts. WHY would you disable the traction control? what advantage do you get?
  5. Traction control is to keep the vehicle under control. It applies the brakes to help with that. With trac off, OP can keep it in 2wd in the loose dirt and gravel without losing power

Anybody know how to do this on a Limited? Are the limited front wheel drive?
  7. Limited should be rear wheel drive as well. There should also be a push button to disable it. It will look like the vehicle with squiggly lines under it

If I understand it correctly, the Limited versions are full time 4 wheel drive similar to a BMW x drive vehicle or any other AWD allowing differing amounts of torque to each end depending on traction / demand When you select 4H or 4L, it "locks" the x-fer case. I believe I've read the torque split in normal mode is 40/60 (front/rear) until it's "locked" up by your selector knob.

That being the case & if it's a 4x4, there is not rear drive only (for whippin doughnuts) even by turning the traction control off (switch on the overhead).

The two wheel drive version is RWD only.
